Glenglassaugh Distillery

Overview

The Glenglassaugh distillery was founded by James Moir and his two nephews Alexander and William Morrison in 1874.  It is located in the small Scottish seaside community of Portsoy in the heart of the Speyside region. Starting production in 1875, this distillery was closed several times before it was finally shut down in 1986.

Aside from being bottled as a single malt, this fine Scotch was used in several blends including Famous Grouse, Cutty Sark and Laign's.

Ownership

After the death of Thomas Wilson in 1883 and James Moir in 1887 the distillery was run by Alexander Morrison from 1888 and 1892.  Alexander Morrison sold the distillery at Robertson & Baxter.  Later sold in the same year to the Highland Distilleries Co Ltd.
