Inverleven Distillery

Overview

Inverleven distillery is also known as Dumbarton.  Classified as a Lowland malt by Michael Jackson but has a close proximity to the Loch Lomond distillery a few miles north which is a western Highlander. Currently licensed to George Ballantine & Son Ltd. it still produces whisky for the Ballantine's blend to this day.  Inverleven whisky was produced using a conventional still from Loch Lomond water.  A sister 'Lomond' still with a rectifier was installed in 1959 produced the 'Lomond' malt.  Both malt distilleries on the site were closed in 1991 and mothballed in 1992.

Ownership

Inverleven, also known as Dumbarton,was built in 1938 by Hiram Walker & Sons. This Dumbarton Grain Distillery is currently owned by Chivas Brothers.
